Griffin's Moor


Before the unification of the Moorlands, Griffin’s Moor was a kingdom known for their fierce griffin-mounted warriors. Ruled by the ancient House of Daentemonte, the once-kings now rule as the Lords of Griffin’s Moor.

Griffin’s Moor was named for their high population of griffins.


In their natural habitat, the griffins nest on the rocky outcroppings that line the mountainous regions of Griffin’s Moor. The Great Griffins and above are currently considered protected breeds, which means they are only allowed to be hunted by state officials.

However, Lesser Griffins can be farmed all over the country. They used to be raised as riding animals, and can still be flown competitively with a license, but are a Class-D Limited Access Species by Unified Moorlands Law. They are farmed for their feathers, talons, bones, and even some lesser moors buy the meat.

War Griffins can be bred and sold internationally, but after the Great Moor War, they were banned inside the Moorlands for their advantage in the battlefield.

The Great Moor War

Most people know that Griffin’s Moor toed the line of neutrality, but they’re unsure to what degree. This much is known—House Daentemonte was allowed to keep ruling Griffin’s Moor.


Griffin’s Moor has a population of around 97,500—at least the last time a census was held. The lands are mostly populated by Humans, Elves, and an even mix of Dwarves and Halflings. There’s not one set religion in Griffin’s Moor, but ancient traditions did look favorably on constellations in the sky.

Areas of Interest

  • Fairhawk: As the capital city of Griffin’s Moor, Fairhawk is also one of the busiest. With the large pavilions and circular gardens, Fairhawk is known as a place of beauty.
  • Eaglepact: Near the sea sits Eaglepact. As an ancient strategic seat of power during the Carregothic Dragon War, Eaglepact was where the Great War Griffins were trained. There are still War Griffins bred, but they are licensed for show.
  • Telmin’s Valley: Telmin’s Valley is a small, isolated village in the north east of Griffin’s Moor. It was once a thriving farming town, but the lack of steady water flow over the last few decades has meant the dry moor land is creeping up on the farmland.
  • Overdale: A river city in the north of Griffin’s Moor. The easiest place to catch a down-river ferry to the capital.
  • Courtier Bridge: If you wanted to sell something, it would be Courtier Bridge. This city is found where the river forks off.
  • Nine Roots: A halfling village. Most people ignore it, unless you want to get a belly full of hot pies, and a mug full of cold ale.
  • Pell’Tut: An old ruin where the Battle of the Black Stumps took place.
  • Ashenwood: A very secluded, reclusive Elven town. They continuously have issues with House Daentemonte over the ruling of Griffin’s Moor.
  • Roosthall: A Dwarven community on the northern border between Griffin’s Moor and Crowning Moor.

Tense Alliances

Bordered by Crowning Moor to the north, and Sike’s Moor beyond that, Griffin’s Moor has always had a tense trading partnership with these Major Moors.

However, until the war, Griffin’s Moor had economic influence and power over its smaller neighbors, including Marin Moor, Lable’s Moor, and Merle Moor.
